St. Patrick's Day Party!!! |

Fun activities for St. Patrick’s
Day Parties. For Kids: This activity works best with younger children in a large back yard or park. Tell them the tale of leprechaun and don’t forget the key elements of that little old 2 foot man like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, his incessant hammering to repair shoes, his speed and trickery. Then, help the little ones build a trap to catch their own leprechaun. Start with a green cardboard box that you can place on it’s side. Paint the box green several days before the St. Patrick’s Day Party so it will be completely dry. Prop the lid to the box open with a stick and place an old, worn out shoe inside the box to attract the leprechaun. Have the children hide their boxes in bushes and cover with leaves. Tell them to keep an ear open for the hammering while they go about their other party activities. Once the children have moved on, sneak over and replace the old shoe with a pot of gold! Use a witch’s kettle left over from Halloween or just use a black or green plastic bowl. Fill the pot with shinny new pennies. You can ask the bank for a few rolls of new pennies in exchange for a couple bucks. Or, get the cold wrapped chocolate coins. Once you have replaced the shoe with the coins, make a banging noise and call the kids to see if they caught a leprechaun. Include a note in the pot from the leprechaun saying "thank you for the shoe and enjoy me gold for your kindness". The kids will be so amazed with the coins left by the leprechaun; they will be talking about it for weeks. |

For Teens: Blarney Stone Activity. Have the teen host gather as many hand sized rocks as the number of expected guests. If you do not live in a rocky area, visit the local nursery to pick some up cheaply. Wash the rocks thoroughly and allow to dry before the party. Then have the teens sit in a circle and hand each a rock. Explain the story of the Blarney Stone and how it will endow whoever kisses it with the eternal gift of eloquence - the 'Gift of the Gab'. Have paints, markers, glue, glitter, etc. available in the middle of the circle. Have each child draw a circle (quarter sized) on the rock with a marker and then decorate outside of the rock making sure it is something unique to them. Then have the kids sign the bottom of their Blarney Stone. Pass the stone clockwise in the circle having each teen kiss the circle on the Blarney Stone to “activate it” once the stone is returned to the original owner, he or she should place the last kiss upon the stone to obtain the “gift of gab” |
