    GIRLS ONLY

Still looking for that special someone or maybe you just broke up with that not so special someone? That does not mean you have to hide in a dark room watching TV in your PJs on Valentines Day. Get the girls together and celebrate the love of your friends. It is a special occasion, light the candles, break out the board games and decorations and have fun. Here is a game that all your girlfriends will love. Sit around a table with 5 slips of paper and pens for everyone. There are 5 rounds where each lady writes the name of a guy she knows on the slips of paper. Go around the table explaining the guy you are including. The first round is an ex-boyfriend. The second round is a guy she would never want to go out with. The third round is a guy that she would like to get to know better. The fourth is a famous singer or band member. The fifth is a famous actor. One name per slip. You have already had hours of fun talking about all the men in your lives (good and bad). Now, fold and place all the slips into a Cupid Piñata and hang the Piñata from a tree or just lay it on the ground. Beat it with a bat and (just like when you were a kid) as soon as it busts open, gather up as many slips as you can before the other ladies get them. Now, share the names you have collected with the rest of the room and pick one to keep and burn the rest. Click here to find Valentine’s Day Piñatas.
History of Valentines Day
Well, there are several “theories” as to the beginning of Valentines day but they all revolve around Saint Valentine. One legend claims that St. Valentine was a priest in Rome. Claudius II, Emperor, decided that married soldiers were not as dedicated to the army as single ones.   History of Valentines Day continued...
Some people view St. Valentine’s Day as a day created by greeting card manufacturers to make a buck but the truth is that the day brings a warm feeling in all of us as we remember getting that little hand written card from our first love placed in our eloquently decorated shoe box sitting on our kindergarten desk. There are more cards sent for Valentines Day than any other holiday, with the exception of Christmas, of course. With all the bears, gifts, cards, and CHOCOLATE floating around on Valentines day, you have to wonder who started this and why?

Well, there are several “theories” as to the beginning of Valentines day but they all revolve around Saint Valentine. One legend claims that St. Valentine was a priest in Rome. Claudius II, Emperor, decided that married soldiers were not as dedicated to the army as single ones. He then made a law that young men could no longer get married so that his army could be stronger. St. Valentine disobeyed this law and married couples secretly. Once he was caught, Emperor Claudius II had him put to death.

Another theory is that St. Valentine was in love with his jailor’s daughter. Before he was put to death, he expressed his love for her in a letter which he signed “Your Valentine”.

Maybe his name was not St. Valentine at all. Maybe it was Charles, Duke of Orleans. Which was a Frenchman confined in the Tower of London after the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. He sent rhyming love letters “valentines” to his beloved wife in France during his stay.

Yes, Valentine’s Day can be traced back well before the middle ages. During the seventeenth century, people copied poems from booklets to make their own valentines. America would import these booklets from England and copy the appropriate verse onto a gilt-edged letter paper or other decorative sheet. Men would send a verse to his love that addressed his feelings or question of marriage and then the lady would in turn reply with a verse of her choosing.

Years later, in 1830, a brilliant Mount Holyoke College student, Miss Esther Howland created the first “American Made” Valentines card after watching her father import valentines every year from England. Miss Howland instead imported fine papers, lace and other supplies to make her valentines. Her annual sales were close to one hundred thousand dollars!

Today there are thousands of Valentine card manufacturers around the globe and cards can be found to match every personality and every situation all in a wide price range.
